Miss Hazlerigg is committed to exploring non-operative treatment options before considering surgery. These may include specialist hand therapy and, where appropriate, corticosteroid injections. Most of these injections can be performed in clinic, however for areas that need guidance for the needle such as the wrist joint or small joints in the finger these may require ultrasound or x-rays guidance, using local anaesthetic.
Patients who consult Miss Hazlerigg with an injury or conditions such as arthritis will usually require an X-ray, which can often be arranged on the same day. Certain conditions may need further assessment, and she may recommend additional imaging such as an ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI. These will often require a follow-up appointment. For patients with nerve-related concerns, Miss Hazlerigg may consider a nerve conduction study. This helps with diagnosis and provides a clear understanding of the severity of the condition, allowing patients to make informed decisions about whether monitoring is appropriate or if more urgent treatment is necessary.
